"To me, the music and art we create is generally defined by a list of self-imposed limitations we set on ourselves. There are many football players, yet at each position, they have a different set of skills pertaining to what they have practiced and believed to be important. Why would Dali ever try to be Rembrandt? Can you see a Coldplay jazz album on the horizon?
Defined by experience maybe, we all wander the lazy river of our own respective opus stuck eternally in our own bodies. At least from what we know.
This album, as Matt Nieuwold so elegantly put it, is the honeymoon of me making music exactly the way I want to.
It was easy in the past to try and DIY everything I could, making my own samples, free of all the 'burden' of collaboration. It wasn't until very recently that I discovered I'm not awesome at everything. I know, it's very hard to believe for everyone.
I need help. Any and all qualms about the source of sound have been completely eradicated. I've decided that the only way to create a truly 'you' sound is to make everything from scratch, down to mining your own gold and smelting your own patch cords and cutting down the tree to carve your own acoustic out of its shell. To see it how I'm seeing it; John sampled Paul and it worked out pretty good for him. I'm done doing this thing alone. I'm done pretending like I know how the science of the best sounds ever.
I can start the spark but I'll always need kindling.
Lyrically speaking, this baby is more or less an honest revelation of a man who realizes in third person that he knows shit all about everything and it's all gravy.
Ignorance is shiny summery bliss. "
